Trunk or Treat is coming to HOP!

Should a church be involved in a Halloween event? Are we participating in something that we should be avoiding? Didn’t Jesus say that we are in the world but not of the world?

These are great questions to ask about any cultural activity that we participate in. I would encourage you to read John 15:16-19 and John 17:14-18 to see what Jesus actually said. These verses make it clear that while we are not to participate in the world's value system, we are very much in the world and we are to be engaging with those in the world.

Jesus is the very best example of what that looks like. Jesus humbled himself, came into the world and sought to love those who were of the world. He loved them by taking the message of repentance and forgiveness to them where they were. Sometimes people walk through our doors looking for truth, and sometimes we need to go out with the love of Christ and the truth of the Gospel.

That is what trunk or treat is all about. This is an event where we go into the world of Halloween not to conform, but with the hope of seeing Jesus transform the lives we interact with. This is a great outreach opportunity for our church, it is also a great way to get to know the people you sit with on Sunday morning in a new way.

We are preparing to host over 1000 people from the community in our parking lot! We would love for you to be a part of taking the Gospel to our community during this event. Click here to let us know if you would like to serve with us on October 26!

You are loved,

Pastor Jeff
